Mastitis (Breast Abscess)



When referring to Mastitis in a non-breastfeeding women, its often caused by a bacterial infection. This can be as a result of bacteria getting into the milk ducts through a cracked or sore nipple. Generally its referred as periductal mastitis

Symptoms

·        The presence of lumps in the breast.
·        Breast pain or burning.
·        Red skin.
·        Flu-like symptoms, such as chills or fatigue.

Can mastitis be dangerous?

As it advances, mastitis can cause the formation of a breast abscess. This is a localized collection of pus within breast tissue. Severe cases of mastitis can be fatal if left untreated
